Why this book? and why now?

In the beginning, this project was simply my way of documenting years of learning and research in what many consider a dry but vital area—incident management. However, as I began writing, the purpose evolved. The idea first took shape during my years working with oil and gas companies in Houston. Much of it grew from handwritten notes, late-night reflections, and real-world experiences, supported by my volunteer work in nonprofit and professional communities.

Over the past six years, I’ve watched the landscape of cyber warfare shift dramatically. Nations and industries have been forced to confront deep gaps in preparedness. Having had a front-row seat to this evolution, I felt an urgency to organize these lessons into a structured, practical guide.

Now more than ever, organizations need to realign their emergency response strategies, break down silos, and unify their teams. This book is my contribution to that effort.

Primarily I wrote the book :

  • To elevate awareness and preparedness for cyber threats facing industrial control systems and critical infrastructure.
  • To address the complexities of critical infrastructure and industrial control systems for both new and seasoned professionals.
  • To emphasize the importance of coordinated incident response among emergency, cyber incident, and industrial control system teams.
  • To equip readers with practical tools and techniques for effective incident command system implementation.
  • To provide practical training and exercises to help readers apply concepts in real-world scenarios.
  • To empower professionals with a structured approach to safeguard their organizations and tackle challenges.
  • To acknowledge the contributions of public domain resources and emphasize collective efforts in incident management and cybersecurity.

Key Features

  • Understand OT incident management with focus on Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS), their security challenges, and role in critical infrastructure.
  • Develop training and exercise methods for enhanced ICS incident preparedness for your organization.
  • Be better prepared for Incidents in CI and understand the importance of government reporting.
